Fourth of July Pet Safety: Part II

The Fourth of July is an exciting time of the year to come together and celebrate the birth of our nation while relaxing in the backyard with some friends and family. Nothing beats a relaxing day while barbecuing your favorite foods and enjoying a nice cold beverage.

Staying at home over the holidays is less stressful than having to fight through all of the traffic and bridge closures while rushing around to see the fireworks. On top of this, you will be home with your pets and this will make them feel more comfortable when the fireworks start going off in the evening.

Ring in the Fourth of July in a safe manner. Here are some helpful tips to keep your pet safe over the holiday:

Exercise

Get your pets plenty of exercise during the day before the evening fireworks. This will help bring a sense of balance to their wellbeing because it stimulates them mentally, physically and emotionally. Exercise will help your pet relax before a potentially scary event.

Drinks

Never leave alcoholic drinks unattended where your pets can easily ingest and polish off your drink. Alcoholic beverages can be toxic if ingested by animals and could cause respiratory failure.

Food

Try to stick to your normal routine and feed your pets their regular food during the day. Stay away from feeding your pet table food because this can cause an upset stomach. Make sure to inform your guests to avoid feeding any party food to your pet.

Identification

Make sure your animals are wearing their personal identification tags and collars with updated phone numbers and information. You can also look into getting your pet microchipped during their next veterinary visit. Even if your pet is an indoor animal, keep their collar on them during the party because your pet may potentially try to escape when someone is coming or going from the house.

Fence

If your dog is known to knock over the fence and likes to test the integrity of your fencing make sure to check the security of your fence posts in the morning before everyone arrives. Getting loose on the Fourth of the July is the last thing you want to worry about with all of the fireworks going off.

Very happy with Tripod Aluminum's screen enclosure work. Despite Port Saint Lucie's extra permit needs for our 1984 home, they quickly resumed and finished the project to our great satisfaction.
