Do I Need a Pool Fence If I Don’t Have Kids?

We realize that not everyone has children in their lives.  If you have a pool, this may lead you to question whether or not having a pool fence, often referred to as a baby gate or by the name brand of Baby Guard,  would benefit you.  There are multiple benefits to having a pool safety fence.  Pool safety fences can help keep out unwanted visitors from your pool.  We are not talking about your obnoxious neighbors, but rather visitors like snakes and alligators.

As for people…even if you don’t have children in your family, it is more than likely that you have children in your neighborhood.  Should a neighborhood child get into your backyard for any reason, like retrieving a stray ball, your pool fence is an extra measure of protection for the child and for you. While it would not be your fault if said child were to fall into your pool, you would still feel terrible if anything bad were to happen to him or her.

Living in a coastal state, you may take it for granted that most people know how to swim, but you would be surprised how many people don’t know how to swim, including adults.  In just the last couple of months, Brevard County has seen an unusual number of adult drownings.  A nineteen-year-old young man was pulled from the Indian River having drowned.  A couple weeks prior to that, a twenty-three-year-old young man from West Melbourne was pulled from the Banana River, just off the Pineda Causeway.  There were no signs of foul play or trauma.  Though the families are waiting on the autopsies, the causes of death seem to simply be drowning.

And, speaking directly to whether or not a pool safety fence is important, a fifty-three-year-old man was found dead in a backyard pool in Palm Bay.  Again, there does not seem to be any foul play involved.  These deaths are tragic.  While we can’t fence the local rivers, we can fence our own personal pools. It is not just children that are susceptible to drowning.  Oftentimes, older people are unsteady on their feet and can fall into a pool, particularly if they happen to get bumped by a person or pet.  Additionally, sometimes people collapse while outside.  It could be a stroke, heart attack, seizure, or heat stroke.  Regardless of the cause, if your pool has a safety fence around it, it will prevent them from drowning while in the midst of their medical emergency.

So, the answer is “yes,” you do need a pool fence even if you don’t have children.  If this is something you have been considering or are now considering after reading this, then it’s time to call us at Tripod Aluminum to install your Baby Guard fencing.  We offer multiple styles and products to meet your needs, including pool screen repair and porch enclosures.  If you are in the Melbourne, Palm Bay, Viera, Cocoa or Port St. Lucie areas, then we hope to be your choice for a local fence company!
